Adult and Youth

ADULT SEWING (18 and older)

Guidelines

  1. Individuals 18 and under are not eligible to enter exhibits in this department.
  2. All clothing should be clean and pressed. All items of clothing should be on hangers and may be in clear plastic bags.
  3. Exhibits will be judged on design, technique, and workmanship.
  4. The Reuse/Recycle/Refashion Category consists of an item made from one or more other items. Pictures and/or a written description of the steps taken in the creation of the new item should be included. Exhibits will be judged on design, technique, workmanship, and creativity.
  5. A “Best in Show” ribbon and $10 award will be selected by judges of all adult sewing exhibits, except Quilting.
  6. A “Best in Show” ribbon and $10 award will be selected by judges of only Section VI Quilting exhibits.

Prizes (Sections I–V): 1st – $4.00; 2nd – $3.00; 3rd – $2.00
Prizes (Section VI, Quilting): 1st – $6.00; 2nd – $4.00; 3rd – $3.00

SECTION IV: TAILORED GARMENTS

Note: Tailoring begins with relatively stiff fabrics, such as wool, heavy silks, linen, cotton, and many synthetics, which are cut into precise patterns. The pieces are then sewn together with form-giving seams and darts, and reinforced with a firm structure or padding and interfacing.

  1. All exhibits in the Senior Division must have been made by youth between the ages of 14 and 18. All exhibits in the Junior Division must have been made by youth between the ages of 5 and 13.
